Rasheeda Denning is a trailblazer in the world of homeschooling, known for her innovative spirit and dedication to education. As a wife, mother of eight, and grandmother of two, Rasheeda is a dynamic force, unafraid to challenge the status quo. She is a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Paratrooper and Combat Medical Specialist during the Persian Gulf War, and currently holds the distinction of being the first female Post Commander of American Legion Orange Baker Post 187 in DeLand, Florida.
Rasheeda's talents extend beyond the battlefield. A former artist, producer, writer, arranger, singer, and executive, she began her music career at an early age, crowned Miss Tennessee in Hal Jackson's International Talented Teens Pageant at just 13. In 1997, she independently released her first R&B single, and by 2003, she had eight albums under her belt. Her "Heart of a Woman" and "Share My World" albums were on the entry list for the 46th and 47th Annual Grammy Awards, respectively.
Her media presence includes appearances on the Montel Williams Show, World Monitor Special Broadcast, and CBS/Boston Children's Hospital Telethon, as well as a role in the 1989 film *My Mother Wears Combat Boots* alongside Barbara Eden. She is also the recipient of the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Service Award for her extensive community service.
In her personal life, Rasheeda's commitment to family and education shines through her 26-year homeschooling journey. Frustrated by the lack of diversity and support in the homeschooling community, she founded Black Homeschoolers of Central Florida, Inc. in 2009. This nonprofit organization, born out of a desire to create a safe and supportive space for Black homeschooling families, now serves youth and families across the State of Florida and beyond. Rasheeda continues to inspire and lead, leaving a lasting impact on every community she touches.
